Today you read and annotated 2 excerpts from "The Future of Life" by Edward O. Wilson, then analyzed them in small-group discussions. If you were absent, pick up the handout when you come back, and click here for instructions and questions to deepen your analysis.
Find some links here to the samples, with explanations of scores and more detail about the prompt, that we discussed today.
Hi all, As we work on rhetorical analysis leading up to our common assessment, including the Dillard/Audubon essay you just wrote, take some time to reflect on how we are doing.
1. I am a first-year teacher and I would like some constructive feedback from you about how to improve my teaching and your learning experience. Please fill out this survey. Thank you very much! 2. How are we doing with rhetorical analysis? p. 4 and p. 5 3. How did you do on the Dillard/Audubon essay? (I'm not talking just about score! What did you want to say? Where did you say it well? Where could you say it better?) Today you took a "quiz" on the use of footnotes. See these slides for how much information you can get from footnotes.
Then I had you read and annotate the 2 passages by Dillard & Audubon to prepare to write. If you were absent today, see me when you return to do the multiple choice practice. When students finished their MC, they had the option to work on NoRedInk or revising their Thatcher essay.
Today was College & Career Day! Congrats on finishing the PSAT (or ASVAB). Today in class we finished our rhetorical devices posters.
Today after the vocab quiz, you answered some questions that had the same spirit of some multiple choice question stems. They were all related to the Okefenokee Swamp passage you read and annotated yesterday.
Today we read and annotated two passages in order to compare/contrast authors' purposes, including how different imagery, syntax, diction, and tone reveal purpose. If you were absent today, please pick up the handout from the blue bin on your return, and make sure you read and annotate it looking for purpose & author strategies to convey the purpose (diction, syntax, imagery, tone, other devices). Here are today's slides.
