Today we read and annotated "The Necklace." If you were absent today, please read and annotate the story on your own in your workbook. You can also look at the slides here (before the discussion).
If you were absent today, please check out the slides here. Or, just re-read the slides if you need a refresher on some ways to find the main idea when reading and annotating a text.
Today we had a discussion where you used evidence to justify your stance on statements relating to dreams and aspirations. The slides are here if you were absent today.
Today you set up your ePortfolio. If you have questions, please look at the ePortfolio subpage - in particular at the slides and at the tutorial screencast video.
Today you worked in mastery groups to hone your skills on what you most needed today: either some extra time working on your narrative, or independently beginning your ePortfolio. I will walk everyone through the ePortfolio creation process tomorrow for those who need a bit more help. Here are the slides from today.
Today after we talked about the organization of the personal narratives you annotated yesterday, you began writing your own personal narrative (some of you already finished!). Please see the slides for the prompt and rubric, as well as instructions of how to turn in the rubric. Your narrative is due Thursday at 11:59 pm. Remember that it just has to be one page, as long as it answers the 4 questions well (what was your goal? what steps did you take toward it? did you succeed or not? what did you do next?)
Today, in between textbook check-out, you looked at examples of personal narratives: personal essays that students wrote as part of their application essays to get into Johns Hopkins. We talked about what to annotate (predictions, observations, reactions, questions, etc.), then I showed you how to annotate by modeling on the "Just Keep Folding" essay, and then you annotated another essay of your choice. Here are the slides from today, including a rubric of what I am looking for in your annotations. I will be collecting your annotations at the end of class tomorrow to give you some feedback: what you are doing well and/or what you might need to improve on.
Happy Monday! Here are today's slides. We learned about how successful people think, and you wrote a 2-chunk paragraph that identified your goal and explained 2 steps of how you are going to reach that goal.
If you were absent today, you will go to a make-up academic integrity lesson when you return. If you were here and just need a refresher though, the slides are here.
